    PLT from Caly...

Taking an extended break from a 20 page paper that is ALMOST done.

    TEN HOW'S:
How did you get one of your scars?
Lessee... the scar on my left knee is from when I was fourteen and in driver's ed. I rode my bike to the high school for classes. On the way back I took the corner REALLY fast from pavement onto dirt. And fell off my bike. Scratched up my left knee really bad.

How did you celebrate your last birthday?
Didn't go to my grandparents' house like normal, too busy. My parents my CJ's parents at Steak'n'Shake. He got me flowers (finally!!) and a CD (Escaflowne: Lovers Only). I had a really small party at my apartment where a few school friends showed up.

How are you feeling at this moment?
Right at this very moment, annoyed. I HATE research papers. And I thought it was due next week. Blurg! I don't like school. I might not graduate next semester and I WANNA! I want to get married at the end of next summer but my roommate thinks we're not ready yet.

How much money did you spend last month?
As little as possible outside of bills. School: 1,250. Apartment: 225. Car insurance: 50. Gas... who knows. Credit card bills: a couple hundred (stupid school books!).

    23

Life sucks. Well, right now mine does anyway...

I'm starting to get sick because I'm not sleeping as much as I should be because I'm trying to get homework done. I can't afford to get sick. Subs at work are 95% non-existent. I need the money. I need my health. Maybe I am working too many hours... 35+ is too much... But I can't afford not to, I need the money. I have too much homework. I don't understand 20th Century British Authors. I don't like Expository Writing, I want to write fiction! I'm not a huge fan of Senior Sem... 20 page paper! That I have to defend! O.O And more homework. Which the homework isn't too bad. Mosaic Lit is way too much reading. I like Coaching Volleyball! ... Except for the midterm... Why can't he cover this stuff in class?? Or use normal terminology? I've never heard of "center back" it's "back middle"!

I don't have time with CJ or Jess and Sara. CJ and I want to get married at the end of next summer and Jess doesn't think we're ready. Duh... we're ready to be ready.

Also, I think someone might have gotten hold of my Meijer credit card number. But possibly not. There's a few things on the bill that I don't recall and I don't have receipts for. But, I don't keep very good track of my receipts, so possibly not. I hope not. Either way, the account is blocked. It doesn't exist any more (except for the money I owe them), so I don't have to worry about it any more.

So yeah. Life sucks. I want Thanksgiving break to be here. I wish fall break was longer. I need to patch up my pit jeans. I need to make patches for my pit jeans (I couldn't find any in Meijer). I need more time.

I might not be able to graduate next semester. I was an English major, Bible minor. That's a major in the BA and a minor in the BS. You can't do that. One has to have a full program. I didn't know that until about three weeks ago. So. I changed my minor to Religion. (Side note: Bible is BS but Religion is BA? Go figure...) So I have like one or two classes in the Religion minor. And one that I wanted to take next semester is part of that. But there are four classes at CU next semester for my new Religion minor. I need six. So I'm trying Grand Valley. Hopefully I'll get in. Now, new problem: Chapel. My GV classes would start at 10. It's a half an hour drive to GV. So I'd miss half of chapel (which starts at 9). And on Tuesday New Testament History and Theology starts at 8:30 and gets done at 9:45 in the morning? What?! I thought they couldn't do that!

And I lost the earrings to the set that Jess got me for my birthday. They're brand new! And I take very good care of my jewelry! *Angry*

So yeah. Life sucks right now.

    8:51 pm
(Please to to ***, read, and respond if you want to skip my long rambling day) Wow... and update!

So, today is Wednesday. The third day of classes. How is it going?

Well, Wednesday was better than Tuesday, which in turn was better than Monday.

I didn't get much of a vacation between the ending of work and the beginning of school. Which is part of my FRAZZLED-ness problem. But this is the last time I will have to do it (at least for college... if grad school is in my future, well, who knows!).

Monday was terrible. I was training a fantastic young man in the dishroom in the morning for the breakfast shift and he had no clue what was going on. So I'm teaching him everything. And everyone and their roommate decided to come to breakfast! O.O Breakfast is usually a pretty easy shift. Not on Monday! It wouldn't have been so bad, except that I had class at 8 and the shift is over at 9. So I left at 7:50. I felt terrible because there were a lot of people there and he needed help. Thankfully I told my bosses and they kept an eye on him and helped him. However, he left some things that could have been taken care of; thus backing up the lunch people. Who were short staffed by three to four people! O.O Meaning they left some things for me at dinner. And I was short someone at dinner. But dinner wasn't too bad. The two newbies learned well (one was supposed to have dropped the shift but came in and helped anyway) and a couple of other people came in and helped. One of the newbies was already half-trained and she worked marvelously well! I was able to leave her doing things by herself while I did other things. And I had company for lunch. I enjoy company! Yay community! (CU students are sick of hearing that, I'm sure. ) I am also training the MWF dishroom cleaner and he's a good friend of mine. He did a swell job!!! :)

Tuesday was much better. I have a normal shift in the morning and it went FANTASTIC! I even had company at breakfast (I enjoy company at breakfast, but most of my friends don't get up that early). My lunch shift went pretty darn well too; despite the fact that my boss didn't have anyone scheduled to come help me before Food Service opened. My boss talked with me and we're not going to fill that shift because I can handle stuff and when my other workers come in they can help and we still won't be backed up. Then the T/Th dish room cleaner person didn't show up... :( But one of my normal workers volunteered to help (he knew stuff, it rocked). My Tuesday 2:30-5 got out early so I helped clean the dishroom (still no cleaner). I didn't make it to an appointment on time... but they are great people and it worked out. CJ and I hung out for a little bit on Tuesday and he stretched my tastebuds a little. I wish we could have had more time, but I needed sleep because I am still training the morning dishroom person.

Wednesday (today!) was even better still. The morning person is remembering stuff I taught him. He still got backed up and needed help, but he's coming. And hopefully this first week is a fluke: NEVER have so many students come to breakfast (except for exam week). Never. So hopefully soon the students will thin out a bit and it will be easier on him. Again I had company at lunch. :) I again trained the MWF cleaner and I had to leave and come back (another appointment) and he did an AMAZING job! One little thing I need to mention to him, but it was something I should have told him. The dinner shift was STUPENDOUS! The marvelous newbie from Monday was back. And I had a full crew! And all but the newbie were experienced! I taught her something else and she took to that like a fish in water. She is an incredible worker; just the kind that we want to be in my position (dish lead). I asked her (and my boss) and I'm training her this semester! YAY we have someone to dish lead during her college career and spread the dishroom gospel!! XD XD (She's a sophomore, so she'd be around for a while! ^_^)

All of my classes have gone well enough for the first week; meaning I'm not happy with my place in them but it's also the first week and I know I will get into the grove and climb to a better place.

    Which brings me to now.

And I have something that I want opinions on.

***In one of my classes many of the students did not have the book yet and therefore had not read the assignment (this is normal. However professes don't seem to understand this and still give us homework. You tell me why they still do this??). I made the statement that my book was in the mail and I was getting it. The prof said "this isn't my problem. I don't care. It's not the school's problem. The school is not responsible." And many students held my same sentiments: We don't have the book yet, it's coming, please be patient with us. NOW: I think that the faculty/staff (random: what the heck is the difference between faculty and staff?????) SHOULD care and SHOULDN'T give us assignments at the very least during the first week. 1) We've got to get back into the school grove. Give us time to readjust. 2) Yes, we can get the books from the bookstore. A) It's DOGGONE EXPENSIVE!!!  We're college students!! They can't expect all students to pay those prices! B) Books are cheaper online (mostly). Therefore, we buy them online. eBay/Amazon/Barns and Noble require that buyers allow 1) 3-6 (ish) business days [Expedited Shipping] or 2) 6-14 business days [Standard Shipping]. (Or something like that) NOTE: Buisness days. Not normal days. So, in theory it could take almost three weeks for Standard Shipping books to arrive! Now, this is VERY RARELY the case. Stuff, whether shipped Expedited or Standard, usually comes in about a week's time (remember, take into account weekends/holidays). I'm a generally responsible student. I make some attempts to be slightly more responsible than others. I ordered my books towards the beginning of August because the online bookstore had the books listed. One of my classes changed (new prof) and he changed the books. And it is the prof that said the above statements. So. I had the wrong books and needed the new ones. So here's Rachel: has her books, finds out ONE DAY before school starts (Sunday) that she has the wrong books for class and is missing one or two books (I had to order a lot of books for one class and try to get them from the library. I got confused and missed one or two). So, she feverishly orders the right books. And prays to God that they come in about a week because she can't afford Expedited Shipping. I have my finances figured out. I'm pretty sure I didn't have any extra money. And Expedited Shipping is about twice Standard.

So. You tell me: Shouldn't school care? Shouldn't they try to work with us?

Please respond. This is an issue at all colleges/universities have. And we have an incredible university president that listens to students and I feel it on my heart that maybe this is an issue that needs to be brought to his attention.

Along with the fact that Food Service needs a little more funding. And the dishroom needs a new power sprayer. And a new DISH MACHINE. And there is black mold on the bottom of the line that is IMPOSSIBLE to clean because of the way it is made. Heck, the whole of food service could be remodeled and made better!! I know of at least one National "don't ever break this rule" rule that we're breaking that we can't fix because it takes so much money and construction. Ask if you want; it's not terrible.

There. That is my first three days of school.

    About Me meme

    First Name:
I can tell you my name is Rachel Ann D, hence the user handle Rad. :-P I think I got my middle name from an old great-aunt, but I am not sure. I... never hated nor loved my name, but as you can see I love my initials. Good thing CJ's last name is Hess and not something that starts with a "T".

    Age:
    21. My birthday is September 19. I did not have alcohol on my birthday. Prolly will never have it. I have been driving since I was 14.5 and I am really good at it... but many, MANY people are not.

    Location:
Currently I am at Camp Geneva, Holland, MI; I took my roommate over here so she could see her boyfriend. My current residence is in Kentwood, MI but I can more commonly be found in Cornerstone University, Grand Rapids, MI. My permanent residence, at least until I get married, is Wyoming, MI (my parents' house).

    Occupation:

I work in the dishroom at CU's food service. Sometimes I'm in charge... or all by myself. I get to deal with the CRAPPY machine and dirty dishes. I love the industrial dishwasher though; I hate doing dishes. But the pit is so much fun. That's where I met CJ. ^_^

    Partner:
I have two, though I am not cheating. XD Jessica is my roommate and my best friend. We roomed together two years ago when we met through a mutual aquaintence and she wanted to room with me again this past year. We are trying to room again this coming school year but we must have a third roommate (she wants her own room but I can't afford my own room). Our roommate-sister-friend relationship is a lot like marriage...!! XD CJ is my boyfriend. We've been dating since September 30. Someday we will get married. Someday after college and my internship....

    Kids:
I suppose you could call Jess my child... XD XD I don't have kids. Unless you want to count the ponies! Heh. I want them someday.

    Brothers/Sisters:

I have one younger brother (18 or 19) who is very immature and a jerk. He enjoys his videogames far too much and he needs a job SO bad. He still lives at home but is very irresponsible. He pays rent but doesn't act like a good tennant should.

My mom is an animal person so I have two dog "sisters." One, Heidi, we have had for... 13 years? She's getting old but she's mommy's baby; Mom calls her fluffy-butt because of all of her HAIR. She's a medium-sized mutt that we got from one of Josh's schoolmates waaaay back when. The other, Maya, Mom kinda rescued from a shelter/adopt-a-pet place. Maya wasn't abused but she was neglected some. She's REALLY hyper and unfortunately chews on things. Mom's still working on training her but Maya is getting much better. She might even be a sheep herder... Mom's taking her to classes to get her exercised and her brain working. I think Mom said Maya was a Blue Healer and a... German Shepherd? mix. Not sure.

    Pets:

I personally do not have any pets. Unless you count my roommate. XD Or the ponies. XD

List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life:
    1) Working in the dishroom this summer. I'm not a big fan of some of the other workers, but I don't work with them a lot so it's all good.
    2) CJ. We hang out at least twice a week.
    3) Jess. She is my best friend and the sister I always wanted. We get along so well. She's visually impaired and can't drive, so I'm her choufer (yes, I can't spell that) so we have a lot of bonding time. She's currently looking for a job and not doing so well.
    4) Writing. I am going to try to do this a lot this summer. I want to get my Escaflowne stories done, get a lot of chapters and contiums done in my My Little Pony story, and work on some original concept ideas.
    5) Not so much now but during school I need to find an internship!

Where and for what did you go to school for?:

As already stated I attend and work at Cornerstone University. I am an English major in the reading track; though I want a writing track. But the only writing track CU offers is journalism and I want to write stories. I chose this major because there was nothing left but Bible and I don't want to do that for a career. I don't like math, science, kineseology, or buisness or anything else. I love to read, write, and edit/find mistakes, so I chose an English major. Someday I want to be an author and an editor. I chose to attend CU because my dad wanted me to attend Calvin. *Sticks tongue out at her father*

    Parents:
I have both parents and they are still together. My parents are nearing 50 but aren't "old" quite yet. I love them both but I'm so glad to not be living at home. My mom and I are pretty close. My dad... well, I love him but he can get on my nerves. He is a bit of a workaholic and doesn't realize he should be home more often. He rags on me a little that I work almost 40 hours this summer with minimum wage when I could be working at the factory for $9/hr. But that's no fun. I like food service: I know and enjoy (most of) the people there and I love the dishroom.

Who are some of your closest friends?
Jessica and CJ. I'm not really close with anyone. I have good friends at school but we all have such different interests that I don't see them much.

And there you go. Feel free to ask questions.

    Look!! An Update! O.O

School is done. I got all Bs and one A-. I have a 3.3. I am happy with that. Its fantastic.

My last day of Food Service was supposed to be the 9th, officially, and then working the Gordon Funeral the 12th and 13th. Then Jo asked if I'd work Wednesday... then Thursday... then Friday... then all of next week!! Yays! "You'll make more money at the factory" says my dad and grandmother. Pah (<-- Look, Rose's influencing me! XD), yes I will, but I'll have more fun at Food Service. :-P

CJ and I are doing well. ^_^ He's working crazy hours but got his schedule changed around so he's not working quite so many hours.

Our apartment's lease has three more months then I'm moving back home for financial reasons. I'm not all that excited to be home; however, I'll spend nearly all my time at school anyway.

    Muh... I think that's it...

    Suckage

    Suckage #1:

The pit dish machine is broken. Again. Have I mentioned I HATE washing dishes???

[My first act as wife; after the honeymoon, should I ever actually get married; will be to tell my husband, "We are getting a dishwasher. We have two options for the dishes that don't fit in the dishwasher: 1) you wash them, 2) we hire someone to wash them.]

    Suckage #2:

I'm allergic to the bleach/sanitizer in the sinks. Meaning I can't competely wash dishes by myself. Meaning my self-worth goes down because I know I could get most of the dishes done.

    Suckage #3:

I got a ticket this morning.  Why in heaven's name did Rachel, of all people, get a ticket??? I swear the light was green... so I turned. Well, the light wasn't green. Got pulled over. Written up for disobeying a traffic device, instead of running a red light; this is a lesser offense according to the officer, which I am VERY greatful for. Heaven knows I don't need to pay any MORE money out of my pocket than necessary. Also bad, I am no longer confident in my driving. I'm almost scared to drive now...

    Suckage #4:

I ZOINKING HATE IT when other people don't follow the law and obey the traffic rules!! ESPECIALLY COPS!!!! All of those people DO NOT BELONG ON THE ROAD!!!!!!!!!!!

    Suckage #5:

The Secretary of State and Courthouse aren't open while I"m out of work, except durning my 1.5 hour break. I have to get a temporary license cuz I'm turning 21 soon and I have to pay my ticket. >.< I don't want to wait until next Thursday (the day I have off) to pay the ticket, doesn't matter that I have 10 days to pay it off. I don't want to wait to pay it off. I want to pay it off NOW, thus avoiding any possible late fees.

    Suckage. Suckage, suckage, SUCKAGE.

So for about two years now I have been banging on my dashboard to get my spuid digital display to work. Sometimes this helps. Well, I've never done it in the dark before.

Tonight I have learned that hitting the dashboard has a very high chance of turning the headlights off.

Tis time for a new car... crap, I don't have the money. >.<

I went and saw Transformers with Angela (co-worker), and it was an

    AMAZING MOVIE!!!!!!

Oh my gosh!! I think I have decided that this will be my second favorite movie of all time!! (Second to Ever After) It was SO GOOD! So much action and edge-of-your-seat suspense! And screaming/gasping moments! And My Little Pony! (Yes, I cheered. ^_^ How could I not?)

I want the movie on DVD NOW!!! And the soundtrack. The Goo Goo Dolls did a song!!

And then I called Kemp (guy friend) to wish him a Happy Birthday and I babbled! I usually don't babble. But I was so "high" after the movie that I did! And I even babbled to Leslie too, while we were in Meijer. I was pumped for several hours after the movie. It was random.

Speaking of Meijer, look what Leslie (roommate) and I found!

    Wow... I have readers!
    Lol.

Responses made to responses on my previous post.

(8:30 am) We don't have power here... and I'm only slightly worried about Adeyla (my laptop). She's been acting up for a few months now. The last couple of times I've shut her off, she took several power button pokes to turn her off. It scares me to turn her off now. But I have nearly all my data saved (just have to save internet links, I forgot those), so my stuff is fine.

I don't have to work today, which ROCKS. I love the pit/food service, but it is nice to have a day off. Though I do need to be going to bed earlier. Going to bed at 11 mixed with a 5:30 am wake-up doesn't work. It's 10 for me from now on.

(2:30 pm) The power's back and Adeyla is at tech. I turned her off because of the loss of power and she didn't turn back on. Horror of horrors. And of course, ten minutes later we got power back. Ah well, she needed to be looked at anyway. So I am in the library now. I'll probably read some and then go back to the apartment and clean.

    I miss my music.

And I HATE my father's allergies. I inherited his allergy to dust. It sucks majorly. We've been cleaning at food service, and that's what set it off. Weird thing is the allergies didn't pop up until last Thanksgiving, when I was allergic to my grandparents' old home. And it popped up again majorly at Christmas when I was at the other grandparents' home and while cleaning the apartment for check out. I hate it. Hate hate hate it. At least it doesn't last very long or hurt. Just a runny/sniffly nose. Booooo.

[a smell that makes you smile]: Um... Pizza?

[a city you'd like to visit]: Ok, not a city, but I don't know which one I'd need to visit. [your transportation]: 198something silver oldsmobile cutless supreme. Needs replacing, but hey, it works!

    [your cologne or perfume]: Nada.

[under your bed or in your closet you hide]: Well, my bed here at the dorm is a bunk bed, Sarah be under it. At home under the bed is stuffed animals I won't part with, old sheets, and boards for a locker shelf. In my closet I hide... um... nothing really. During the summer I'll hide my Esca stuff in my closet at home. Oh! I do hide the amount of My Little Pony stuff I have ... Ehehe. O.o

[something important on your night table]: PJ!! (Stuffed animal I've had since the Christmas where I was seven. I've told her everything, and she won't ever tell a soul. Though sadly, she'll never answer.)

She cut off part of my soul...
I feel like she chopped off a part of my soul... *Cry* I told Amy she could give me a new hairstyle, so long as she left it long. You know, give me bangs or whatever. I was starting to get sick of my hair.

She cut it all off. Its all gone. My hair was down to the middle of my back, and now it barely brushes my shoulders.

I haven't had short hair in... never. Its always been just past my shoulders or longer. Long hair made me me. Sarah and Jo got their hair cut way short. Becky had her hair chopped off. Katie got her hair cut a while ago. I used to stand out. Now I'm one of the faces in the faceless mass of the earth. I was starting to be really comfortable in the fact that I was different and that other people accepted that and still loved me. Now, now I blend in. I don't stand out.

"You'll be goregous when we're done."

Like I wasn't fine the way that I was??

Well, I'm definently wearing my Sesshomaru shirt and my My Little Pony shirts this week, just to make sure the world knows that just because I look like it doens't mean that I am going to continue to blend in on the inside.

They bought me a new outfit too. The top was awful, FAR too low and revealing. The pants were ok, but didn't fit. They were low rise or hip huggers or whatever the heck "style" is, and are far too low; but didn't fit. So we went to Wal*Mart and got a sweater (its a tad low, but its ok) and bigger pants. The pants are still too low, but that is remidied with a camisole.

I am a people-pleaser, I like making others happy. I'm also a self-sacrificer. That's part of the reason I didn't ball my eyes out for more than a few moments yesterday. I know Amy and the rest were just trying to be nice, but its not me.

I feel betrayed. Amy was easily my favoritest person at CU. She made up for Jo and Sarah not being there. Now... I gave her an inch and she took ten miles.

I will never ever again allow anyone to change me to what they think is cool. I'll never change me.

    *Cry*

Pictures when I get back to school and have my camera cord.
